  • How different would your life be without technology?

?

ATIVIDADE 2:

Professor, projete a  imagem seguinte.

Mostly A?s: You still have hope. With some conscious effort you can stop yourself from getting addicted to social media. You are pretty tech-savvy and like to be aware of what?s happening. Although you are pretty detached from the real people around you, there is still room for improvement. So take the hint, now?s your chance.

Mostly B?s: You are pretty much an ideal person. You use social networking as a tool, to have a better life, and not make it a mode of life itself. So if you are not caught up in the whole web of networking and still prefer talking to a person face-to-face rather than just pinging them, kudos to you!

Mostly C?s: No rewards for guessing, you are addicted to social networking! Instead of socialising with real people, you much rather escape into your own little simulated world of fantasy. You are most probably ignoring the friend sitting right next to you. The fear of missing out has so strong a hold on you, that your social networking account controls you rather than you controlling it. If you want to free yourself of this addiction, start with a small step: ration your social networking time to 2 hours a day only.

What Is Social Networking Addiction?

Social Networking Addiction Definition

Social networking addiction is a phrase sometimes used to refer to someone spending too much time using Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media -- so much so that it interferes with other aspects of daily life.

There's no official medical recognition of social networking addiction as a disease or disorder. Still, the cluster of behaviors associated with heavy or excessive use of social media has become the subject of much discussion and research

Defining Social Networking Addiction

Addiction usually refers to compulsive behavior that leads to negative effects. In most addictions, people feel compelled to do certain activities so often that they become a harmful habit, which then interferes with other important activities such as work or school.

In that context, a social networking addict could be considered someone with a compulsion to use social media to excess--constantly checking Facebook status updates or "stalking" people's profiles on Facebook, for example, for hours on end.

Married to Social Media?

Sociologists and psychologists, meantime, have been exploring the impact of social networking on real-world relationships, especially marriage, and some have questioned whether excessive use of social media could play a role in divorce.

Sherry Turkle, a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has written extensively about the impact of social media on relationships, theorizing that they actually weaken human ties. In her book, Alone Together: Why We Expect More from Technology and Less from Each Other, she chronicles some of the negative impacts of constantly being connected by technology, which paradoxically can leave people feeling more alone.

Still other researchers have concluded that social networking can make people feel better about themselves and more connected to society.

a) How is 'network addiction' defined according to the text?

b) According to Sherry Turkle, a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, what are the negative impacts of constantly being connected by technology?

a) Are you addicted to the Internet? How about your friends or family members?

b) Do you have access to the internet at home?

c) How many hours per day do you spend online?

d) What do you usually do on the web?

e) Does your school have a website?

Atividades adaptadas da fonte: MENEZES, Vera. (2012) Alive 4!

Atividade 5:

Professor, reproduza a seguinte mensagem no data show:
