Atividade 1

 

Para introduzir  o tema da aula, projete para os alunos o texto  seguinte. Solicite a eles que se revezem na leitura. Corrija a pronúncia das palavras e solucione problemas com vocabulário, se necessário. 

 

Making invitations

Do you know how to invite someone to your house for dinner or to go to the movies? 
What do you say in English when someone invites you? 
Here are some common expressions you can use when making or responding to invitations

Inviting:

• Do you want to go to the movies tonight?
• Would you like to go to the theater tomorrow?
• Would you be interested in going to the the stadium next Sunday?
• How do you fancy going to the the restaurant for dinner?
• How about going to the movies?
• Care to come over for lunch?
• I was just wondering if you would like to come over for a drink.
• We'd be delighted to have you over for my birthday party.

Accepting invitations:

• Sure. What time?
• I'd love to, thanks.
• That's very kind of you, thanks.
• That sounds lovely, thank you.
• What a great idea, thank you.
• Sure. When should I be there?

Declining invitations:

• I can't.  I have to work.
• This evening is no good.  I have an appointment.
• I'm busy tomorrow.  Can I take a rain check* on that? 
• That's very kind of you, but actually I'm doing something else this afternoon.
• Well, I'd love to, but I'm already going out to the restaurant.
• I'm really sorry, but I've got something else on.
• I really don't think I can - I'm supposed to be doing something else.

 

(*rain check: used to tell someone that you cannot accept invitations now, but would like to do so at a later time)

Dialogue:

Mike and Ann are in a wedding party:

Mike:	Do you want to dance?
Ann:	No thanks. I'm a bit tired right now
Mike:	How about having a drink?
Ann:	Sure, I'd love to!

 

Below are some common expressions used when making formal and informal invitations:

Atividade 2

 

Reproduza para os alunos o vídeo "Making invitations", disponível em: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWF_fEdLvm4 (Acesso em: 11.10.2014). Primeiramente,  reproduza o vídeo sem interrupções.

 

A  seguir, repita a reprodução, pausando o vídeo para fazer aos alunos  algumas perguntas, tais como: Where are the women? What are they doing? What are they talking about?

 

Dependendo do grau de proficiência da turma,  solicite  aos alunos que descrevam as roupas das personagens, sua aparência física (cor e comprimento do cabelo, altura, cor dos olhos), os objetos que estão em cima da mesa ou na cozinha, enfim, explore as imagens, introduzindo ou rememorando o vocabulário.

 

Em seguida, peça aos alunos que  identifiquem as expressões utilizadas para fazer o convite. Que convite é feito? A amiga aceita? Faça também algumas perguntas para verificar a compreensão dos alunos em relação ao diálogo do vídeo. Escreva no quadro o vocabulário e as expressões que tratam do tema da aula.

Atividade 3

 

Entregue para os alunos  uma cópia xerocopiada da atividade seguinte. Estipule um tempo de, aproximadamente, 15 minutos para a realização do exercício. Permita que trabalhem em duplas. Para a correção, os alunos deverão se revezar na leitura de cada frase, que poderá ser escrita no quadro, facilitando a visualização e a correção.

Dando continuidade à sequência de exercícios xerocopiados, os alunos, em duplas, deverão responder aos  convites seguintes. Incentive-os a aceitar e a negar alguns deles, justificando sempre suas respostas.  No final da atividade proposta, as duplas deverão apresentar suas respostas oralmente.

Nessa atividade, os alunos deverão ler o diálogo a responder às perguntas propostas. Incentive cada dupla de alunos a ler em voz alta, aproveitando esse momento para corrigir problemas com pronúncia.

Anna     : Not really. Why?

Linda     : I’m going to a movie tonight. I wonder if you want to come with me.

Anna     : What kind of movie is it?

Linda     : It’s an action movie.

Todas as atividades propostas na aula deverão ser avaliadas pelo professor, levando-se em conta a motivação, interação, criatividade e participação dos alunos.

 

Para uma avaliação formal, os alunos deverão elaborar diálogos, tal como fizeram na última atividade da aula, no entanto deverá ser um diálogo maior, em que vários convites devem ser feitos, aceitos ou refutados. Os diálogos deverão ser apresentados para todo o grupo e uma produção escrita deverá ser compartilhada em uma plataforma virtual, especialmente criada para esse fim. Avalie a utilização das expressões aprendidas na aula.
