Introdução dos tempos verbais Past Simple e Past Continuous.
O principal objetivo desta aula é comparar e contrastar os tempos verbais Past Simple e Past Continuous. Para que as semelhanças, as diferenças e as correlações entre essas duas categorias de verbos possam ser bem compreendidas pelos alunos, todas as atividades desenvolvidas trazem combinações desses dois tempos verbais,

Esta atividade pode ser realizada no Laboratório de Informática ou em sala de aula, com o recurso de um computador e um projetor multimídia. Os alunos irão assistir a um vídeo curto, que apresenta a cantora Beyonce (figura 1) entrando no palco, no início de um espetáculo. Exiba o vídeo, que se encontra disponível em http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO-2Kep9_aI (acesso em 31 out. 2014) e, em seguida, peça aos alunos para relatarem o incidente ocorrido. Escreva, no quadro, algumas respostas que, espera-se, sejam semelhantes às escritas abaixo:

O objetivo desta atividade é praticar o emprego correto dos tempos verbais estudados. Esta atividade foi retirada do endereço: http://www.perfect-english-grammar.com/past-simple-past-continuous-exercise-1.html (acesso em 31 out. 2014) e ela pode ser realizada tanto no Laboratório de informática como em sala de aula. No segundo caso, o professor deverá providenciar cópias do exercício, que está transcrito abaixo, para os estudantes. Os alunos deverão completar as sentenças, escolhendo o tempo verbal apropriado e conjugando os verbos dados. A correção pode ser feita oralmente, dando oportunidade aos alunos de falarem suas respostas.

Esta atividade é dividida em três partes. Primeiramente, os alunos irão assistir a um vídeo, contendo algumas situações engraçadas. No segundo momento, os estudantes deverão realizar um exercício escrito, com o objetivo de completar vinte sentenças, conjugando os verbos entre parênteses, nos tempos Past Simple ou Past Continuous. As sentenças do exercício descrevem as situações retratadas no vídeo. Faça cópias do exercício abaixo, distribua-as para os alunos e conceda alguns minutos para a sua resolução. Quando a tarefa estiver concluída, peça aos estudantes que leiam suas respostas, uma a uma, para a devida correção. A terceira e última parte desta tarefa consiste em ordenar as frases, na sequência em que elas aparecem no filme. Para isso, exiba o vídeo novamente, fazendo pausas entre uma cena e outra.

Para finalizar a aula, organize a turma em duplas. Providencie uma cópia do quadro da figura 3 e uma folha de papel para cada par de alunos. As cartas deverão ser recortadas, embaralhadas e colocadas com as faces viradas para baixo. O primeiro aluno deverá retirar uma carta e escrever uma frase, na folha de papel, usando os tempos verbais Past Simple e/ou Past Continuous. A frase deverá incluir as duas palavras contidas na carta, O outro aluno, então, repete o procedimento e o processo continua, alternadamente, até que as cartas terminem. A intenção é ligar as frases, tentando criar uma história que, provavelmente, irá parecer absurda ou engraçada, no final. Quando todos terminarem, as duplas podem ler suas histórias ou colocá-las no mural da sala, para que todos possam lê-las. A correção deverá ser feita pelo professor, ao longo da resolução da tarefa.

Comentário: As respostas variam, conforme a criatividade dos alunos. Por exemplo, para a carta contendo as palavras SWIM - TURTLE, algumas frases possíveis seriam: My cousin was swimming in a lake, when he saw a turtle; I saw a turtle swimming in a tank, when I went to the zoo; I was swimming, when my father came with a turtle; entre outras.

Os alunos podem ser avaliados no decorrer da aula, levando em conta o envolvimento nas tarefas, a participação oral e as produções escritas. As histórias produzidas na última atividade podem ser objetos de uma avaliação quantitativa.
